P7 First Aid Workshops

All P7s were lucky to have the opportunity to have a visit from Sarah from the British Red Cross yesterday. In the workshops they learned how to help someone who is unconscious. First you have to check if they are responsive and if not, you then have to check if they are breathing. If they are breathing, you roll them onto their side and lift up their head to open their airways. If they are not breathing, we learned the technique to deliver chest compressions until the emergency services arrive.

These are vital skills that could help us in an emergency situation. Sarah also taught us the first rule of first aid – always keep yourself safe first!

Interscholastics – Monday 4th June

Some children from P6 and P7 were chosen to compete for Echline at Interscholastics, an annual athletics event for Edinburgh schools. This year it was held at George Watson’s.

Everyone tried their best in their events and did themselves proud. They represented the school very well and it was a great opportunity to compete against other schools at a large stadium event.

A special well done to Sophie who won her heat for P6 Girls 80m Flat Race and made it into the final. Another special well done to the P6 Boys Relay Team consisting of Archie, Lewis, Igor and Sam, who also won their heat and made it to the semi-final. We all nearly lost our voices cheering them on as they ran another great race making it into the final! Unfortunately they didn’t come home with a medal but they did their best on the day and we couldn’t have asked for more than that!

Thank you to Mrs McCourt for accompanying us on the trip.

P6/7’s Health, Eco and Outdoor Learning Week – update!

We have all had a wonderful week and would like to thank Miss Marshall for all her hard work and effort in organising the fun activities and opportunities for us this week! Here is what we have been up to during the rest of the week…

While our P7s were cycling to Hopetoun, our P6s made healthy snacks and created adverts for them; we had an American Football taster session with Tom; and we had our much anticipated turn on the inflatable assault course! The P6s beat the P7s in a team race and Mr Williamson beat Miss Dickson in their race!

Well done to the fabulous House Captains for leading the Wake and Shake every morning this week and sorting the music for it! Although I’m not sure who has enjoyed it more – the House Captains or Mr Williamson and Miss Dickson?!

Sports Day!

Well done everyone for a fantastic Sports Day today!

Well done to the hard-working House Captains who did a great job at keeping spectators refreshed today. Thanks to the busy stall we raised £107.15 for school funds. Thank you very much to Scotmid for donating tea, coffee and milk and to Tunnocks for donating the caramel wafers and teacakes.

Here are some pictures from today, including some very proud medal winners across P6 and P7 – congratulations!
