DNA from a Kiwi!!!

P4/5 had a fantastic opportunity to visit the science department at Queensferry High School.

In connection with our class science topic of inheritance, we looked at how DNA is part of every living thing and makes us unique.  We all had great fun extracting DNA from a Kiwi fruit and being scientists for the morning!

Children In Need

Well done to everyone for dressing up today and donating your £1 for such a worthwhile cause. You all looked fantastic!

Thank you very much to everyone who baked for the bake sale and who came along to buy something. I think we have all had plenty of treats today!

Finally a big well done to the House Captains for organising and running our Children In Need morning. Our total at the moment is a brilliant £800!! The final total will be revealed next week!

Potato germ experiment

This week we have been busy looking at keeping ourselves healthy. We looked at eating healthily  as well as the importance of hygiene.

We set up our potato experiment to look at how germs could be present on different surfaces.  It was decided as a class which objects we should test.

We were all very excited to see the results of the experiment.  It shocked and surprised us how germs spread onto objects that we would touch everyday!  We will definitely be washing our hands more often!!!

Bridge Mural

This week the school has been buzzing with excitement with our special visitor Chris Rutterford!

We had the fantastic opportunity to contribute to the new school mural and had great fun painting.  We even got to wear Chris Rutterford’s special hats whilst painting!
