Book Week Scotland

Although a few weeks have passed since Book Week Scotland, P2 and P2/3 wanted to share what they got up to over the week.

It all kicked off on Monday with a visit from a special story teller from Far From The Maddening Crowd book shop in Linlithgow… she read lots of exciting stories but most exciting of all was BB the bunny who came along with her!

On Tuesday when we attended a Book Week assembly with Mr Moir. Some of our family members came too and we received our Read Write Count bags which contained some very exciting items to assist learning at home.

On Thursday, the P2s from both classes visited the library together, where we found out more about joining the library and the lovely librarian, Nicola, read a superb story called ‘The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors’. We also got a chance to look at the books in the library, which we found very exciting- there were SO many books to choose from! Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who walked with us to and from the library.

During Book Week P2 dipped their toes into the novel ‘The Christmasaurus’, and Miss Bennett read parts of the book to P2 whenever the DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) Bell rang. In P2/3, the boys and girls read their own books whenever the DEAR Bell rang.

All in all, it was a fantastic week spent celebrating books and reading ūüôā

P3 Library visit

In book week P3 pupils took a visit to South Queensferry library. The librarian, Nicola, gave us lots of useful information about using the library and borrowing books. She also read us a fantastic story called ‘The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors’ by Drew Daywalt. We¬† enjoyed the opportunity to explore the library and have a look at some of the brilliant books on offer.

The P2s are revising the magic e over the next two weeks. We will be going over the long a,e,i,o and u words we have learned throughout the term. We will also be reviewing our tricky words. One of the videos we have been using in class to help us remember what the magic e does is the magic e song which can be found here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZhl6YcrxZQ

The P3s are learning to add¬†-ed¬† on to words. There are three different -ed sounds which we will be working on, the ending which sounds like ‘ed’ for example hunted¬†, the ending which sounds like¬†‘d’ for example filled¬†and the ending which sounds like¬†‘t’ for example kicked.¬†The tricky words we will be looking at this week and next are¬†door, during, study, cold, hold and heard.¬†Here are some of the worlds we will be looking at below:¬†

belted hinted
